A loan of $1,100 helped to buy potato seeds and 2 sacks of pea seeds.

Elsa's story

Elsa, 58, is a tenacious woman. She was widowed 2 years ago, and ever since she has been the sole provider for her 2 minor children. She lives with them in the rural Carita settlement. She has been farming for 35 years; she started out farming with her husband. Despite being alone, she continues to work with a lot of effort. Her main crops are potatoes, peas and corn, and she cultivates these on her own land. Over all of this time she was able to secure good buyers, as she sells the seeds of the potatoes that she produces to the big wholesale traders. In addition, she has 3 dairy cows, and she makes cheese that she sells in the market on Sundays. Now she is getting ready for the harvest of potatoes and corn, and she hopes to get good earnings. She plans to improve her cultivations so she can have better earnings and this way pay for the education of her children, since she is the only person supporting the family. She belongs to the communal bank "Progreso Carita," and this is their 7th loan cycle with MFP. She is grateful for the support that she has received from MFP over the years. Very soon, Elsa will harvest her potato and corn crops. With this loan, she will buy potato seeds of the "Primeriza" variety, as well as 2 sacks of pea seeds.
