A loan of $550 helped to buy spare parts.

Mercedes Moserrate's story

Every two weeks, the 'Creciendo para el Futuro' (Growing for the Future) community bank meets in a sector known as 'Parque Forestal', in the city of Portoviejo. This area is known for its beautiful park and also for its lush vegetation and beautiful landscape.

Mercedes is a founding member of her community bank. She has been a member for 10 years and is the bank's treasurer. She likes being a member because she enjoys herself at the meetings. Mercedes is 47 years old, married, and has three grown-up daughters. Her daughters live in her mother-in-law's house. Mercedes' husband is a car mechanic.

Mercedes is a good housewife who is taking this loan for her husband's business. Her husband has a garage. She tells us that her husband specializes in heavy machinery so he often has to travel to other places where the damaged machines are in order to repair them. He works every day from 8.00am to 8.00pm and sometimes until even later. Mercedes tells us that he learned his trade when he was very young. He used to work with his dad but he started working for himself 10 years ago.

Mercedes will use this loan to buy certain pieces and spare parts for her husband's work. Her dream is to have her house nicely finished.
