Las Lomas Group's story

The "Las Lomas" ("The Hills") community group is starting its first loan at the Los Andes regional office. This group consists of 10 members, and the board of directors has Elizabeth as president, Marisol as treasurer and Ximena as secretary. The members make a living in different industries, including commerce, production and service, for example: sewing jackets and backpacks; crafting rugs; selling rugs; selling food; weaving sweaters; working as a construction assistant; and selling potatoes and potato flour. The president, Elizabeth, is a young woman of 31, married and has three children. This is her first experience with group loans. For a number of years, she has made a living sewing backpacks and jackets. She learned the business by working alongside her husband. She buys her materials in the city of La Paz at wholesale and sells the finished products out of her home. This work helps her family. She plans to use the loan she is requesting to purchase cotton ribbon so she can improve the products she sells. When we asked her what she liked most about Kiva partner Pro Mujer, Elizabeth responded, "Everything."

In this group: Elizabeth, Marisol, Martha, Francisca, Ximena Lourdes , Feliza, Dolores, Segundina, Rosa Felicidad, Victoria
