A loan of $800 helped to several bags of organic fertilizer.

Gladys's story

Gladys, age 30, is in a common law relationship with José. They have two children, Jair and Ángel, who she cares for and feeds in their home in the village of Bellavista Huaracayo. Gladys started farming eight years ago. Since that time, she has been renting farmland on a annual basis in order to grow peas and other vegetables with the help of her husband. What she enjoys most about her work is being in the fields. “It makes me feel calm,” says Gladys. She also claims that she has not experienced any losses because whenever the price of peas is low at the market, she will dry her harvest and sells her products as seeds. As a result, she earns slightly more that what she invested. Each bag of seed sells for at least 500 PEN. Her main difficulty has been not having her own land so that she can cover the educational expenses of her children. For this reason, she plans to save whenever she can so that she can buy more farmland and minimize the cost of renting.

Gladys is a member of the Communal Bank “Señor de Muruhuay” and receiving her second loan with MFP. She feels secure because she knows that she has the support that she needs. Gladys will be harvesting peas within a month. For this reason, she will use her loan to buy several bags of organic fertilizer to apply on her crops so that she can obtain a fruitful harvest.
