A loan of $2,400 helped a member to buy cell phones.

Aguilas De Corazon Group's story

The ”Águilas de Corazón" [Eagles With Heart] Community Lending Association is starting its eight loan cycle in the Los Andes Regional Office. There are nine members of the association, and Mery is the president of the board of directors.

The women are in different businesses, including woodworking, and sales of wood, cell phones, jackets, meals, salchipapas [sausage and potatoes], shoes, and clothing.

Mery, the president, is a young woman of 26, who is expecting a baby. This is her fourth year working with community lending associations and she's building her business on her own.

Currently Mery is a cell phone vendor; she buys the phones second hand. She tells us she plans to use her loan to buy more merchandise to sell at the 16 de Julio Market from her mobile cart, since she doesn't have a permanent stand.

When we asked Mery what she likes most about Pro Mujer, she said she likes the loans.
