A loan of $675 helped to buy cooking oil and clothing.

Nafing's story

Madame NAFING D. is 34 years old, married, and the mother of three children. She lives with her husband in a large traditional family in the Médine district of Ségou (the fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali).
Unable to attend school because of social circumstances (her parents were illiterate), she went to work to earn money alongside her mother who sold condiments in the market in Pelengana. After several years of learning, she began doing many different types of work on her own (selling juice, clothing, shoes and cooking oils). She has been doing this work for 17 years and enjoys a large clientele. Her healthy sales are due to the quality of her merchandise, but also because of her reasonable prices and seriousness in collecting her money.
In hopes of building up her business, and to increase her profits, she has applied at Soro Yiriwaso. She has been involved with them for 54 months, having taken out 3 joint loans and 3 individual loans, all correctly repaid. She is on her fourth individual loan with which she plans to buy 10 20-liter cans of oil and 5 lengths of lesser quality fabric. She gets her supplies in Burkina Faso.
Madame NAFING D. sells for cash and for credit to a clientele of women and men.
With this loan, she hopes to earn a monthly profit of 45,000 FCFA. These earnings will allow her to help her husband and to participate in social events. Her ambition is to build a house and to grow her business.
