A loan of $725 helped to buy ten units of 'aguayo' (traditional, multi-colored, woven fabric) and to buy flowers.

Sonia's story

Sonia is a member of the 'Virgen de Lujan' community bank which is located in Tinicachi district, in Yunguyo province, in Puno department. She is 31 years old, lives with her partner, and has 5 children. She studied up to the fourth year of elementary school.

Sonia has been working with Movimiento Manuela Ramos for 6 years. She invested her first loan for 300 Peruvian soles in buying groceries. Currently, she sells hand-made woven products. She is requesting a new loan for 2,000 Peruvian soles to buy ten units of 'aguayo' (traditional, multi-colored, woven fabric). She will also buy flowers to sell in La Paz (Bolivia). Sonia works together with her husband on their small farm growing flowers, potatoes, beans, etc. Her dream is to own a well-stocked grocery store that will allow her to make more income. What she likes about her community bank is the ease with which members can obtain loans.
