Ligia Melchora's story

Ligia is a member of the 'Perlas de Pucalipa' community bank which is located in Calleria district, in Ucayali department. She is 56 years old and has three grown-up children.

Ligia's business is selling new clothes. She makes her sales from her home and sometimes goes out and makes deliveries because she also works to order. She will use her loan for 1,000 Peruvian soles to buy 5 pairs of girls' pants, half a dozen polo shirts, half a dozen blouses, 3 dresses, half a dozen girls' skirts, 6 pairs of ladies' pants, half a dozen ladies' polo shirts, 3 pairs of ladies' shorts and a small display case.

Ligia tells us that her business is slow right now and she didn't want to borrow too much because she wants to be able to make her repayments to Manuela Ramos without difficulty. For this reason, she has only requested 1,000 soles. As a single woman, Ligia had to look after her children while they were in her care. Now that her children have their own families she is more relaxed. She is able to concentrate on her business and look after herself.
