Yennys's story

Yennys S. lives in the Centro neighbourhood of the municipality of Puerto Colombia which is close to the ocean in Atlántico Department. She is 54 years old and has raised two children who are now 25 and 28. She runs a general store which she started a year ago when she noticed an empty stall in a busy area of the municipality.

When Yennys began the business, she only had a glass cabinet and a few items for sale, but as she is a very self-disciplined person, she put the profits back into the business. In this way the business grew, as did the number of customers. They are enthusiastic about the products and the service she offers and buy more from her as each day goes by.

Yennys’s dream is to have a large warehouse of goods which is well-known and in a good position. Her biggest challenge is the tough competition she faces in terms of prices and service.

Currently she is applying for her first loan with the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation. She wishes to use the money to buy items in bulk such as cosmetics, accessories, perfume etc. In this way she will have more capital and will be able to sell on account. She expects to have a 25-day turnover of inventory.
