A loan of $5,000 helped a member to buy soap, beauty milk, shoes, saucepans, suitcases, etc.

Mufariji Group's story

Salamu W., age 31, is married and the mother of 3 children. She's an entrepreneur, and the leader of the Mufariji group. Her husband is a retailer. Salamu W. also retails various products, and she and her husband help each other in business. They have a store at the Birere shopping center in the city of Goma.

She's been running this business for three years. Around 2009, she received her first loan from Kiva's partner, Hekima MFI, in order to bolster her capital. This new loan will be used to buy new supplies ("Omo" soap, beauty milk, shoes, saucepans, suitcases, clothing, "Nido" milk, sardines, etc.). Furthermore, she ambitions to ensure the future of her business and build houses to rent.

Salamu W. thanks Hekima for its actions targeting poor women who do not get access to loans from regular banks. The Mufariji group comprises 15 members.
