A loan of $375 helped to buy sacks of manure.

Marino's story

Marino, 50, is an honest, hard working man living with his wife, Hilaria, and their three children in La Libertad’s San Juan hamlet. He’s been a farmer for the last 40 years. Since then he’s been planting all varieties of potato in large quantities. He noticed that along the coast of the country, where he visits every 8 months, there was a potentially profitable potato market. What he enjoys most about his work are the long planting seasons because he can spend more time in his location, since that’s where he sells his potato and pea crops, and can go to the coast more easily without neglecting his family. He is currently saving money to buy a house in the nation’s capital. He’s a member of the “Capital Semillera” (Seed Capital) communal bank and this is his 3rd loan with MFP where he was taught to save with dedication and responsibility. In a few months Marino will harvest his “Pericholi” variety of potato so will use the loan to buy sacks of organic manure to spread among his fields.
