A loan of $150 helped to purchase more cosmetic lotions and shoes for resale.


Sarah's story

Sarah N. is 22 years old and lives in the town of Kalerwe in the Kampala central region of Uganda. She is married and has three children. Two of her children are currently in school. Sarah has a cosmetic shop selling all types of body lotion, which she has had for two years. She also has a second business of selling shoes.

To help expand her business, Sarah has requested a loan of 300,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more cosmetic lotions and shoes for resale. With the help of this loan from BRAC, Sarah hopes to generate greater profits and contribute to paying school fees. In the future, Sarah hopes to expand her business and also build a house.

Sarah is a member of BRAC’s Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program, which has helped her prospects for the future by allowing her to become self-reliant.
