A loan of $725 helped to buy a new boat engine, fuel and oil.

Laura's story

Señora Laura is a member of the Nuevo Edén (New Eden) Community Bank in Yarinacocha district, Ucayali department. She is 60 years old, married, and has four children.

She owns a boat that she rents out for fishing, and it is because of this that she is able to pay some of the costs of running her home. Her husband is convalescing after an illness and hasn’t been able to work for some time. Laura has had several loans over the past ten years with Kiva partner Manuela Ramos.

With this new 2000 sole loan, she plans to buy a new engine for the boat, 10 gallons of fuel, and one litre of oil. Her work consists of renting out the boat and taking care of household expenses. She has to work to support the family and watch over their wellbeing.

She is grateful to Manuela Ramos for what the organization does for working women who are keen to get on in life.
