Alianza De La Cascada Group's story

The Communal Association “Alianza de La Cascada” is starting its sixth loan cycle as part of the Cascada Community Center. This group consists of ten members. Its Board of Directors consists of the following members: Sra. María Magdalena – President, Sra. Augustina – Treasurer, and Sra. Sofía – Sectretary of Records. These women have businesses in different sectors such as trade, manufacturing, and services.

The president, Sra. María Magdalena, is a 48 year old woman. She is married and the mother of five children. Sra. María Magdalena has plenty of experience working with groups prior to joining “Alianza de La Cascada” since she was a member of other Communal Associations with Pro Mujer. Her first experience occurred in 1993. With regard to her business, María Magdalena says that she has been producing woven blankets for twenty years. Her sister taught her this trade. The amount of her loan request will be used to buy vicuña and alpaca wool, the material she uses to make blankets. She acquires the vicuña and alpaca wool at the July 16th Fair in the city of El Alto. Her finished blankets are also sold at the fair on Thursdays and Sundays between 7am and 12:30pm. When necessary, her children help with selling blankets.

When asked what she enjoys most about Pro Mujer, Sra. María Magdalena indicated that she likes sharing with the other group members, the savings account, and the training classes because she is able to learn.

In this group: Maria Magdalena, Ceverina Maria Eugenia, Maria Carmen, Bertha, Sofia, Agustina, Petrona, Marcela, Rosmery, Reina Margarita
