Mrs. Sophal U., 36, and her husband, Chanthoeun Noy, have been married since 1990. They have five children: two sons and three daughters. Two of their children are studying in the local school, and one of Sophal’s daughters is helping her weave silk at home. Sophal and her family live on an island of the Mekong River about twenty kilometers from Phnom Penh. Sophal has been a silk weaver since she was 16 years old. It's a skill she learned from her neighbor. Her husband is a fisherman and also does farming. He also helps Sophal weave silk when he has free time.

Sophal is requesting her seventh loan from MAXIMA in the amount of $400. She will use this loan to purchase silk materials to continue her silk production and set up a new loom for her daughter. As Sophal has successfully repaid previous loans, we feel sure she will repay this new loan as well.
