A loan of $725 helped to purchase fertilizer and to plant coffee.

Lucilo's story

Lucilo is 52 years old and he is married. He lives with his wife and six of their nine children and a grandson. He lives in his own house in the district of Colasay, in the department of Cajamarca. It is located more than six hours from the city of Chiclayo, the capital of the Lambayeque region. His house is made of very rustic materials and he doesn't have basic services such as hydro and water. His only source of water is from a small stream that passes through his land.

His earns his living by cultivating coffee, corn, beans, and yuca. Between the months of April and June he expects to harvest 10 quintals of coffee, 15 quintals of beans, and 20 quintals of corn. Additionally, he has two cows which he keeps in some land near his house. He has 20 years’ experience in these businesses.

He wishes to invest a part of his loan in the purchase of fertilizer for his coffee plantation, and another part will be used to plant five thousand coffee seedlings in a piece of land he is readying. In order to reach his goal he has approached Edpyme Alternativa (Kiva Field Partner) for a loan of 2000 nuevos soles.
