A loan of $775 helped to buy fruit.

Manuela's story

Mrs. Manuela T. is a member of the Progresista communal bank. She lives in downtown Cuenca, a city that was designated Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1999 because of its beautiful, historic city center. It has many places where nature can be admired in its entire splendor. Its residents keep its culture and traditions alive.

Manuela is 32 years old, married and has three children who are 13, 9 and 5 years of age. Her two oldest daughters go to school in the city and her youngest son is in Kindergarten. Her husband is employed in a factory. They do not own their house; they rent.

Manuela is originally from the city of Riobamba. She arrived in Cuenca 15 years ago, since she married. She’s a seasonal fruit vendor.

She will use the loan to buy fruit to stay in business. She is in her 4th loan with the communal bank where she has made many friends with whom she shares at each meeting. Her dream is to own a house.
