A loan of $775 helped to buy spare car parts.

Betty Cesilia's story

The members of the Salud y Vida Communal Bank meet every 15 days in the city of Charapoto. This place is known for its traditional culture and for being a few minutes from two of the best beaches in the province – San Jacinto and San Clemente.

This is where we met Betty. She is 30 years old and has a common-law marriage from which she has three children who are 8, 4, and 1. The oldest goes to school. Her husband works at a rice peeling business.

She has a business selling CDs and spare car parts and they sell things from tires to electric parts. She has had her business in her house for the past three years. Betty works every day from 8am to 6pm and she works alone, as she can manage to tend to her customers. She buys the spare parts in Portoviejo at a distributor that sells to her at a good price.

She will use this loan to purchase all types of spare parts. She has been with the communal bank for four years and she likes it because the loans are quick and have few requirements. Her dream is to have her own house, as she lives with her in-laws.
