Ta-Kuru Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “Ta-Kuru” group from northern Sierra Leone. They run small businesses and have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, in order to seek their first loan. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profit and consequently improve on their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Mariatu B.. She was born in the village of Marampa 28 years ago. She is married and has 2 children. Her husband is a trader and her children are in primary school. Mariatu has been selling cooked bulgur wheat for 5 years now. With her share of this loan, she will buy cooking materials like bulgur wheat, oil, fish, margi, onions, etc. in order to cook a large quantity of bulgur for sale.
