The rural communal bank “Virgen del Carmen” is in its third loan cycle at FINCA Peru. Located in the Ayavi district of Huancavelica Province in Peru, its members work in agriculture, livestock, rabbit-breeding and sales, and food sales.

Bank-member Sonia has a business selling prepared foods. A married mother of five children, aged 7 to 17 and all in school, she has been selling prepared food from her home for five years to truck drivers. Sonia will be using her loan of 600 PEN to purchase food ingredients, plates and other household items. She would like to open an organized and well-staffed restaurant one day with a broad menu. Since being a member of FINCA Peru she has been able to increase the quantity of food she sells and is now able to offer breakfast, lunch and dinner.
