Chick's story

Chick B. S. E. 48 years old, widowed, and has four children, three of whom are below the age of 15. She lives with her children in Azire New Church Bamenda North West Region of Cameroon. Chick B. S. E. has faced some challenges in life. She has been struggling to raise her children all by herself since the death of her husband. She faces difficulties providing for their school needs, especially payment of their school fees on time. She plans to invest this loan in a provision store which sells omo, salt, rice, beans, palm oil, nut oils, savon, magi, salt, and firewood. She has been in this business for a long time and success is her watchword. Chick B. S. E. will plow her profit back into her business and use part to care for her family. Her children’s school needs will be taken care of. She prefers GHAPE because of the training she frequently receives and the method of obtaining and repaying the loan.

The Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE) is a non-profit NGO based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE works towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation through a highly multi-faceted approach. Every client is trained in business management, basic health, life skills, financial management, profits and losses, and family values. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement. GHAPE instills a sense of family and community within its clients and staff and has developed a strong bond of trust between the organization and its clients.
