A loan of $750 helped to buy a three-wheeled vehicle and to buy oranges to juice.

Fernando's story

Fernando Martínez B. is from the town of Chirimoyo, which is located in the State of Michoacán. Monarch butterfly sanctuaries and the archaeological area of Zirahuato are located very near his town.

Fernando is 34 years old and studied up to the third year of high school. He got married when he was very young and had to work in order to support his wife. Don Fer, as he is known by his friends, is requesting a loan to invest in buying a three-wheeled vehicle and oranges so that he can make orange juice.

On Saturdays and Mondays, Fernando sells fruit and vegetables in the village of Angangueo and on Sundays he sets up his stall in the Angangueo street market where he sells used goods: used stereos, tools, tires, etc. He has been in this business for approximately 3 years. He tells us that he stocks up with fruit in the Toluca y Morelia wholesale food market and his fruit stall is located in the village of San José del Rincón (his wife serves on this stall).

Fernando is married to Cristina who sells fruits and vegetables. They have 3 children but only two live with them: Fernanda and Itzel, who are both attending elementary school. Fernando's goals for his business are to acquire premises where he can sell his fruit and vegetables and to buy a large juice extractor so that he can supply large companies with orange juice. He is saving up for such a machine as this business interests him.
