A loan of $850 helped purchase different types of fruits & vegetables.

Hugo's story

Sr. Hugo is 25 years old and originally from the town of San Felipe D. Los Alzati, a beautiful and picturesque locale where artisans are the main source of employment. The nearby attractions incluD. a monarch butterfly sanctuary and the Zirahuato archaeological site.

Don Hugo has a fruit and vegetable stand that he sets up at the local markets in different towns. He says that he requested a loan from Fundación Realidad so that he could invest in seasonal fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, chili peppers, onions, apples, papayas, bananas, watermelons, and other types of produce. Hugo has been in this business for approximately five years. He started working with his parents and later with his sister. Afterwards, he decided to establish his own business because he was not earning enough working with his sister. Hugo was already married and needed to earn enough money to support his wife. He says that with what he earned he was able to save enough money to stock his stand. His merchandise comes from the central supply depot in Toluca in the State of Mexico. Hugo buys at this location because the prices are better, which means he earns a little bit more profit from the sale of his products. He restocks his inventory on Saturdays and works at different markets during the rest of the week.

Hugo is pleased because Fundación Realidad has given him this loan, in addition to the little bit of interest he has earned. He is grateful for the trust that FRAC has demonstrated to him.

Don Hugo has been married for four years to Sra. Juana, who is also a fruit merchant. They have two children, ages 2 and 3. One of his goals is to buy a semi-used truck because he currently drives a very old model that breaks down all the time. He also plans to start a small avocado orchard in the future as a long-term business. He is confident that he will do well in this business. Later on, he will buy peach trees so that he can expand his orchard a little more. Hugo says this loan will be of great help because the income he generates will cover his household and business expenses.
