Elvira's Group's story

Elvira E. is from the village of San Isidro, Cauayan City, Isabela. She is 56 years old and the group leader of a six-member group loan offered by ASKI. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are all collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults.

Elvira is married and has six adult-aged children. To make a living, she owns and operates general store, selling a variety of different products in the local community. She has been engaged in her business for over ten years and earns approximately $206 a month for these activities.

In 2008, she joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. She has successfully repaid a previous loan of 20,000 PHP from ASKI. This previous loan was used to purchase additional inventory and as working capital.

Elvira is requesting a new loan of 30,000 PHP which again will be used to purchase additional inventory and as working capital. This will be her 6th loan from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to supplement the family's income.
