A loan of $1,000 helped to buy sandals, tennis shoes, t-shirts, bathing suits, shorts and seasonal clothing.

Irlanda Cecilia's story

The village bank Maria Asuncion meets every 15 days in the parish of Picoaza in the city of Portoviejo. It is a place know for its commercial zone, traditional festivals of San Pedro and San Pablo, and for the happiness of its people.

Here we find Irlanda, 49 years old, and separated from the father of her 3 children who are all grown and live on their own. Irlanda lives with one of her brothers.

She sells several brands of catalog clothing door-to-door. She offers her products, notes them down, and then meets the requests monthly in a store in the center of Portoviejo, where she also receives orders. Currently she is also selling tennis shoes and seasonal sandals. She works every day now that her sales have increased. She charges half upon delivery, and the remainder within 15 days.

This credit will be used to buy sandals, tennis shoes, t-shirts, bathing suits, shorts and all kinds of seasonal clothing, which is what is selling the most right now. She has been part of the village bank for 10 years and likes the way the institution works. Her goals are to continue growing and to have her own store.
