A loan of $550 helped purchase fabrics & supplies wholesale for manufacturing sportswear.

Sergio's story

Sergio G. is 40 years of age, single, and lives with his mother and sister in one of the happiest and popular neighbors in the city of Barraquilla, Carrizal. There he manufactures sportswear such as sweatshirts, shorts, T-shirts, and other items. Sergio started in this trade by working different jobs for a small business near his house. In his free time, he also helped produce this type of clothing. This is how he learned the art of sewing. His employer encouraged him to pursue this business independently and now he has his own operation located in a basic structure. Sergio currently dreams of acquiring industrial machines so that he will be more independent because he currently pays to have each garment produced. His main challenge was being able to access funding from credit institutions, but now that is a thing of the past.

Sergio is requesting a Kiva loan, which is his first with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. This will enable him to build a credit history. He will take advantage of this opportunity to buy fabrics and supplies wholesale so that he can get special discounts. These materials will be used to manufacture sweaters and shorts in mass quantities so that he can generate a return on his investment. Sergio sells his goods according to order. He is able to compete in the marketplace due to the unmatched quality of his products.
