A loan of $1,000 helped to buy organic fertilizer for farming.

Aquilino's story

Aquilino H. Q. is 53 years old, and lives alone with a niece, who helps him with farming and caring for livestock. They are in the community of Pisly, 92 km. from Cochabamba. Aquilino is a farmer, raising potatoes, papaliza (palisa potatoes, or ulluscus tuberosus), and he has cattle and sheep. He needs money to buy organic fertilizer. Fertilizer is cheap, and he does not yet have the income from his crops. Aquilino is a modest man, hard-working and reliable. It is hard for him to go to the city’s banks, which have many requirements. He took the initiative to come here for a loan.

Aquilino is pleased to have found the institution that will give him a loan, and is now going to buy organic fertilizer at the right time, to have it available for this year’s sowing. This way, he will have savings to help with his niece’s studies, and to improve the housing where they live, which is precarious, made of stones with a straw roof.
