A loan of $775 helped to buy seasonings, purses, sheets, bedspreads, etc.

Violeta's story

The “La Inmaculada” communal bank meets every two weeks in the city of Tosagua, a place known for being very dynamic most of whose residents raise animals and farm because it’s an area with much vegetation.

Violeta is a founding member of the bank and its President. She likes it because the members of her bank meet their obligations and because of the formality of the institution. She is 50 years old and has been a widow for quite some time; she has four children, three whom are adults and a lovely, young, 16 year old daughter who is in high school. Three of the children still live with her.

She is a merchant selling seasonings and spices. She also sells bedspreads, purses and clothing, among other things. She has a small locale where she sells just one day a week because the other days she goes to markets in other cities that occur every week. She buys her merchandise in Santo Domingo. She has been selling the sheets and purses for several years now but she’s only been selling the seasonings for two years.

This loan is to buy seasonings, purses and sheets, among other things. Her dream is that her daughter becomes a professional.
