A loan of $2,125 helped a member to buy wool.

Sofia Davila Group's story

The “SOFIA DÁVILA” communal bank is a group starting its second cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Panamericana Focal Center. Eight women are members.

The “SOFIA DÁVILA” communal bank’s governing body is as follows: Walda is President (this is her second cycle in that position). Primitiva is Treasurer and Constancia is Recording Secretary. The businesses the members are involved in are varied; they have to do with commerce, service and production. Among the businesses we have: vegetable sales, meat sales, blanket weaving, sewing, bed weaving, butcher shop and neighborhood grocery store.

Walda, communal bank President, indicates that she currently has a business weaving blankets. She has been in this line of work for 30 months. Sales are retail in the 16 de Julio zone’s market in an ambulatory fashion on Thursdays and Sundays. She buys her raw materials for the blankets at this market too.

Walda is 36 years old living with her husband and their five children. Her husband works transporting sand in a dump truck. She tells us quite candidly that she and her husband get along together very well.

She will use the requested loan to increase working capital buying wool.

In this group: Walda, Hilaria, Constancia, Santusa, Gregoria, Fortunata, Virginia Sonia, Primitiva
