Gabriel De Jesús
The violence that was occurring in Urrao Antioquia, his municipality of origin, Gabriel de Jesus U. Z. and his wife saw no other option than to move to the city of Medellin, in search of better opportunities.

With his hands and with the small savings he had were the only tools he had to start his own business. He is a fighter that never tires and he started out selling fruits and fish along various streets in the city. His hope was to pull through and to improve their quality of life.

Four years ago Gabriel managed to have a fixed location from where to sell fruits and it is located in the downtown area of the city. He works from 7am to 7pm to earn a daily living.

The dream of this enterprising man is to make his business grow and to offer a larger variety of fruits to his clients. He requires a loan to cancel some loans he incurred in the purchase of fruits in the past and to purchase more products to increase his sales.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
