A loan of $850 helped a member purchase clothing.

Badegna Group's story

BADEGNA is a group of four married women who, on average are 40 years old, have 5 children, and live with their husbands and children in Bougouni in the Massablacoura (third largest administrative region in the republic of Mali). The members of the BADEGNA group met each other via families ties or living in the same neighborhoods. In order to find sufficient funds to satisfy their customers, these women decided to join the loan program at microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso.

The loan will be used to purchase large quantities of grains as well as other diverse products such as clothing for Badibi S.. This will be their fifth loan; the first four were reimbursed in a timely manner. WIth this new loan, Badibi S., the president of the group, plans to purchase 20 sets (shirts and pants) for children, 10 sets for children and 25 sets for girls. She stocks up in Bamako from wholesale vendors and sells the clothing from her home as well as in the market, both for cash as well as credit to customers composed of both men and women. She hopes this loan will enable her to gain monthly profits of 15,000 FCFA [approximately 32 USD] which will be fully reinvested her business.
