BADEGNA is a group of four married women who, on average are 40 years old, have 5 children, and live with their husbands and children in Bougouni in the Massablacoura (third largest administrative region in the republic of Mali). The members of the BADEGNA group met each other via families ties or living in the same neighborhoods. In order to find sufficient funds to satisfy their customers, these women decided to join the loan program at microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso.

The loan will be used to purchase large quantities of grains as well as other diverse products such as clothing for Badibi S.. This will be their fifth loan; the first four were reimbursed in a timely manner. WIth this new loan, Badibi S., the president of the group, plans to purchase 20 sets (shirts and pants) for children, 10 sets for children and 25 sets for girls. She stocks up in Bamako from wholesale vendors and sells the clothing from her home as well as in the market, both for cash as well as credit to customers composed of both men and women. She hopes this loan will enable her to gain monthly profits of 15,000 FCFA [approximately 32 USD] which will be fully reinvested her business.

BADEGNA est un groupement de quatre femmes toutes mariées ayant en moyenne 40 ans, 5 enfants et vivant à dans des familles nucléaires avec leurs époux et enfants à BOUGOUNI dans le quartier Massablacoura (troisième région administrative de la république du Mali).
Les membres du groupe BADEGNA se sont connus à travers des liens de parenté et de voisinage.
Dans l’idée de trouver un fonds de commerce suffisante pour satisfaire leurs clientèles, elles ont décidé d’adhérer au programme de crédit de l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso.
Elles utilisent les prêts pour faire le commerce de céréales, d’articles divers et par Badibi S. pour faire le commerce d’habillements. Elles sont à leurs cinquièmes prêts dont tous les prêts précédents ont été remboursés correctement à l’échéance.
Avec ce nouveau prêt Badibi S. la présidente du groupe, compte acheter, 20 complets (pantalons et chemises) pour garçon, 10 douzaines de complets pour enfants et 25 complets de filles.
Elle s’approvisionne à Bamako chez les grossistes et effectue sa vente en détail à la maison et au marché, en espèce et à crédit à une clientèle composée de femmes et d’hommes.
Avec ce prêt elle espère réaliser un bénéfice mensuel de 15.000 FCFA qui sera totalement réinvesti dans l’activité.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
