A loan of $525 helped purchasing mattresses.

Mahamadou's story

Born on December 1985 in the town of Sikasso, Mr. Mahamadou Diabaté is married and the father of two children (a boy and a girl). He lives with his wife and children in a traditional extended family, together with his parents and brothers in Sanobougou I, a peripheral district of the town of Sikasso (the third administrative region of Mali).

After unsuccessfully trying to work as a baker, two years ago Mr. Diabaté launched a business selling mattresses in the area of Bobo Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. In order to meet the growing customer demand, a year ago he decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution . His first loan duly repaid, he is now seeking a second loan in order to bolster his buinsess capital. This second loan will allow him to purchase ten 15-cm mattresses, five 20-cm “double” mattresses, eight 20-cm “triple” [queen size] mattresses etc. He is very sought after by the local furniture makers. His mattresses are retailed for cash, and often on credit.

With this loan, he plans to achieve a monthly inome of 100,000 West African francs, which will basically be used to bolster his business capital, contribute to the family budget and pay off the interest on his loan.
