A loan of $950 helped to buy oranges, papayas, pineapples, bananas, watermelons, grapefruit, etc.

Felix's story

Felix lives in the Hato Mayor region of the Dominican Republic, located in the eastern part of the country. Hato Mayor is a fairly mountainous region where the principal industry is agriculture. Felix's community, like nearly all impoverished areas in the Dominican Republic, suffers from a constant shortage of running water and electricity.

Felix requires a loan to buy diverse inventory of fruit (such as oranges, papayas, pineapples, bananas, watermelons, grapefruit, etc.) to sell wholesale to others in the public market. He will be starting this business. This is his first loan with field partner Esperanza International, and he decided to take out a loan with us because he feel comfortable with the payments and especially because these loans are for businesses. He is very excited about taking out this loan. He will make a step toward having one of his dreams come true, the one about having his own business, and he knows that by working hard, he will improve his business and with the benefits he will be able to help his family and to pay university fees for his children.

Felix says that his favorite thing is to serve, and he hopes that some of the profit from his business will be saved to buy his own vehicle and to have an improved business without debts.
