Marvin's story

Marvin M., 28, lives in Barranquilla’s 20 de Julio neighborhood, very near Colombia’s most important football stadium. He has his business there selling electronic products like speakers, consoles, loudspeakers and sound system replacement parts, a business he started, in partnership with his sister, when he graduated as a Computer Analyst and Programmer in 2010.

His customers are owners of large sound systems, or pickups; families that add on to their computers components to expand speed, and passersby in the area that notice what things Marvin has for sale and decide that they meet their needs. Marvin’s main goal is to expand his inventory of merchandise so that he can meet customer demand for upgrades to more modern technology.

Marvin’s profit margin in the business is 17% and he calculates improving from this point in order to provide his family, which consists of his wife and two children, who are 3 and 5 years of age, with successful possibilities.

This is his first loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo and his first Kiva loan. He plans to use it to buy speakers, consoles, speaker stands and sound system replacement parts at wholesale and paying cash. He foresees a successful investment because he will be able to get discounts to pass on to his customers because customer satisfaction is his motto.
