A loan of $1,100 helped purchase groceries for her food business.

Sandra María's story

Sra. Sandra L. is a member of the Communal Bank “Sol Naciente” (Rising Sun). She lives in the sector of Feria Libre in the city of Cuenca. This city is admired for its architectural beauty, which contributed toward its recognition as a World Heritage Site. The natural beauty, different cuisines, and the kind friendly people are all characteristics that make Cuenca a lovely city.

Doña Sandra is 28 years old, in a common law marriage, and has three children (ages 11, 9, and 2). Her older children attend school in the city. Sandra’s husband works as a merchant. They do not own a home, so they currently rent.

Doña Sandra is a native of Ventanas, but has lived in Cuenca for the past seven years. She is a merchant who sells food that she prepares early in the morning. Sandra works in two shifts, from 6am to 11am and from 3pm to 6pm. She has managed this business for four years.

Sandra joined the Communal Bank four years ago and the loans have benefited her business. This new loan will be invested in the purchase of groceries so that she can continue selling food. Her goal is to have a house of her own.
