Damaris is one of our businesswomen. She works selling miscellaneous products such as silver jewelry, clothes and shoes. She will use her loan to buy various items of jewelry such as bracelets, rings and earrings. She will also order some clothes and shoes. She makes her sales in her community which is a rural area surrounded by fields of sugarcane, near the town of San Pedro de Macorís where some of her customers live.

Damaris has 3 children who still live with her, together with their father. Her most important challenge is to ensure that her children have a good future and she works hard to achieve this. Damaris is receiving her third loan from Esperanza Internacional and, because her loan repayments have all been made punctually, she has been able to grow her business with the re-investment she makes from each loan. She started her business 2 years ago and at that time only sold clothes. She would like to save her profits so that she can pay for her children's university education and be able to provide them with a safe home as she also has plans to improve her house.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
