A loan helped a member growing her capital by buying large amounts of sweet potatoes to resell.

Urweze Group's story

Yvette N. is a 21-year-old shopkeeper who lives in the Rugombo commune of Cibitoke province, in West Burundi. Her business has been in sweet potatoes at the Rugombo trade center for three years, whereas she used to be a farmer before starting in this trade. Yvette has studied through the 5th grade. She is married and the mother of one child, aged 1 year and 8 months.

Yvette is now on her second community loan cycle with Turame. She is requesting the Kiva loan to increase her capital by buying large amounts of sweet potatoes to resell to her customers. In this way, she will be able to increase her savings.  With this loan and the savings in hand, she hopes to provide for her family and over time to realize her dream of becoming a major merchant.

She is a member of the community group Urweze.
