Benkadi Group's story

BENKADI is a group of 6 women who are, on average, thirty-five years old with six children and live in nuclear families in the Mission, a district of the city of Ouelessebougou (2nd administrative region of Mali). This is their first loan with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution, with the goal is of satisfying the needs of their customers. This group of women sell charcoal with Alimatou S. as well as shea butter, soap, wax pagnes (colorful African cloth) etc. Alimatou S. plans to buy 40 bags of charcoal with the loan. She gets her supplies from wholesalers at the OUELESSEBOUGOU Grand Market and surrounding markets. She sells her goods retail, in cash or on credit, at the Ouelessebougou, BAMAKO market and at her home to a largely female clientele. She hopes to earn an average monthly profit of 30,000 CFA of which a part will be used to help her husband with everyday expenses and the remainder will be invested in the businesses.
