Evelyne is the president of the community bank “Christ Roi Plus”, which is composed of 16 members united in solidarity to receive loans from Kiva through MFI HOPE DRC with the goal of developing their businesses.

Evelyne sells soft drinks. She started her business in 1994 selling palm oil. With the profit generated and good management, she increased her working capital and extended her business by adding beverages and purified water. Evelyne decided to join one of Hope DRC’s groups in order to achieve her dream of building a facility for storing soft drinks.

After joining the Christ Roi Plus group, Evelyne started selling mineral water which generates $82 of profit per week. The monthly income generated from her business and the six different loans she received from Hope have helped her to build up her working capital. Evelyne intends to use the next loan to increase her inventory by buying mineral water and some crates of beverages to resell at a profit. She is 42 years old and the mother of seven children whose ages are between 6 and 25 years old.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
