Mariposas Emprendedoras Group's story

This group is called Mariposas Emprendedoras ["Enterprising Butterflies"]. This name was chosen because the members, like butterflies, like to seek new horizons. It is located in Ixtlahuaca, México, a community which is noteworthy for maintaining its cultural roots, including the Mazahua language and traditional clothing. The majority of the inhabitants work selling vegetables which they grow themselves. The group is maD. up of 11 members. One of the group's members is named Rosa María S., and she is 48 years old. She studied up to secondary school, and she is a housewife and merchant. She comments that thanks to her business, she has been able to get ahead, helping with her family's expenses. She has one 15-year-old son. Rosa has worked for 10 years selling vegetables that she grows herself. Her dedication has allowed her to achieve greater stability, both economically and for her family. With the loan she will obtain, she will buy the compost and fertilizers she needs for her crops. She dreams that some day she will be able to expand her crops, so that she can give her son the opportunity for a professional education.
