A loan of $1,100 helped to buy cattle (a bull to fatten).

Ines's story

Inés is a member of the “Túpac Amaru” community bank which is located in Yunguyo district, in Yunguyo province, in Puno department. She is 46 years old, married, and has 9 children. She studied up to the fourth year of elementary school.

Inés currently makes handicrafts. She knits blankets, 'llijllas' and 'inkuñas' (the latter two products are traditional woollen squares that can be either worn or used to carry things in). She makes these products to order. However, she doesn't only make handicrafts. Inés also fattens pigs. She has been working with Movimiento Manuela Ramos for five years. Her first loan was for 500 Peruvian soles and she used that money to buy wool for making the products mentioned above.

Inés will use this new loan for 3,000 Peruvian soles to buy cattle (a bull to fatten). Her dream is to buy a car and work hard since her husband is in another region working as a construction worker.

What Inés likes about her community bank is the training that she receives and the money that she makes on her savings.
