Cecilia A. Z. is 39 years old and a single mother of four children. She works in the afternoons selling fast food such as “salchipapas” (sausages and fried potatoes), hamburgers, coffee, and other items. Cecilia operates her business from the doorstep of her house.

Ever since she was a young woman, Cecilia has maintained her household. She receives support from the father of her children. Her oldest child works in Chile, while her third child works at a restaurant and then helps her in the afternoons with running her business.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
