Manantial Group's story

The group “Manantial” (Spring) consists of twelve indigenous women who engage in different business activities. They formed this group since they are all neighbors in the community. The group is named “Manantial” because there is a river of the same name where people go to bathe and wash clothes. This group is from the town of Santa Catarina Mechoacan, a place where many fishermen live and that is known for its beautiful vegetation and wildlife.

The representative of the group is Sra. Isabel G. H.. She is 39 years old, married to Sr. Roman G., and has two school age children. Sra. Isabel is the person responsible for inviting the other members to join this group. She earns her living by selling bread.

Sra. Gloria H. Q. is also a member of this group. She is 60 years old and is well-known in town for making some of the most delicious bread. Sra. Gloria has been in this business for more than twenty years. She always generates good sales because she is able to sell in other areas as well as in her own town. People are familiar with the good flavor of her products and order them for special occasions such as weddings, New Years, and other events. She is requesting a loan to buy more supplies used in making her products such as butter, flour, sugar, and other items so that she can produce more and generate slightly better earnings. This will enable her to support her two children who are continuing their education. Gloria will be able to make her loan payments as well.
