Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,025 helped to purchase additional stocks of charcoal.

Pelagie's story

Pelagie is 42, widowed, and does not have any children. She sells charcoal in Gikondo and has a well-organized shop. Pelagie has owned this business for a year, and manages two employees. Pelagie works from 7AM until 7PM every day of the week.

This is Pelagie's first loan, and she intends to use it to buy additional stocks of charcoal. If she realizes additional profits after this loan, Pelagie intends to put the money toward buying a bigger, more expensive house.
