A loan of $250 helped to buy a stock of books to sell.

Joseph Oloisiriri's story

Joseph O. K. is a 34-year-old man from the agricultural town of Kilgoris, south of the Rift Valley in Kenya. He is married to Lilian K., who farms in the same town. They have four children who depend on them for their basic needs.

Joseph has a book-selling business, whereby he sells religious and other motivational books. Some of the books are written in his local dialect of Maasai in order to reach his community at the language they understand best. He has done this work for the last seven years and makes a monthly income of 10,000 KES. He recently joined KADET LTD to gain access to microcredit, and he is now taking out his first loan, which he will use to buy more books to sell.

Joseph will use his profits to diversify into the transport business (locally known as boda boda), since he believes that he will make extra income. His desire is to see his business grow, enabling him to support his family through the provision of basic needs.
