A loan of $675 helped purchase tissue paper, reeds, wire, adhesive, etc.

Dora Beatriz's story

Dora is a member of Yanuncay communal bank, and lives in the Don Bosco neighborhood in Cuenca. This city was named a World Heritage Site in 1999, for the beautiful architecture of its historic center. The people are very friendly and polite and maintain their culture and traditions.

Dora is 28 years old and married, with 4 children, ages 15, 14, 13 and 11. Her 3 older children are in high school, and her youngest son attends primary school in the city. Her husband is a professional driver, and works driving a bus. They live in their own apartment.

Dora works making tissue paper balloons, which she learned from her parents, who also did this work. Her children help her every day, from Sunday to Sunday, with no fixed schedule. She has been doing this work for 20 years, because she started very young.

This is her second loan through the communal bank, where she has many good friends. The money from this loan will be used to purchase materials such as tissue paper, wire, reeds, adhesive, etc., to make her balloons. Her goal is to expand her business, and one day have a tailor shop.
