A loan of $550 helped to buy lists of school supplies to sell to her customers.

Grace Patricia's story

Grace Patricia M. is a 28 year-old woman who lives with her husband and 9 year-old son in Por Fin neighborhood, in the south-west of the city of Barranquilla. She has a general store where she sells decorative items, shoes and plastic products. She displays different products in her business according to the season. Grace Patricia started her business in 2007. Originally she sold products through specialized cosmetics guides. Once her profits increased, she diversified her business, even adding display cases where she displays her merchandise.

Grace Patricia dreams of seeing her business become a large store located in her own home as she currently lives in a rental house. Her business is a great support for her household. For this reason, she is approaching Fundación Mario Santo Domingo in order to increase her working capital through a loan and to receive business training. This will be her first loan through Kiva. She plans to buy lists of school supplies that schools require students to have. She will sell these supplies to the children's parents on credit so that their children have all the supplies they need even though the family may be unable to afford an immediate expense.

Grace Patricia's business has profits of 33%, an inventory turnover period of 35 days and a current working capital of 1,450,000 Colombian pesos. These are the financial indicators on which she plans her business growth.
