Kelisu Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a KIVA partner in Makeni in northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you the members of the “Kelisu” group. These are small business entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to seek a loan of SLL 800,000.00 for each member to invest in their businesses.

Marian K. is the leader of this group. Marian is 45 years old, married, and has six children – 1 in primary school, 2 in secondary school, and the rest are no longer attending school.

Marian sells food at the market – rice, onions, salt, sugar, etc. She has been a businesswoman for 22 years. With her share of this loan, she will expand her business by buying the above mentioned items in large quantities to add to her business.
