A loan of $850 helped a member to buy firewood.

Kotognogotala Group's story

The members of the KOTOGNOGOTALA solidarity group are all married women who average 40 years of age and two children each. They live in monogamous families in Hamdallaye, a district of the city of Sikasso (third administrative region of Mali).

This is their sixth collaboration with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution to meet the needs of their customers. They sell firewood through Mariam T..

With her loan, Mariam T. plans to buy one 20-ton truckload of firewood from accredited rural organizations at the lumber markets in nearby villages. The wood will then be sold to family, to a clientele of both men and women, at retail, for cash and often on credit.

She expects to earn an average monthly profit of 65,000 FCFA, which will be used for the family’s daily expenses.
