Sofia's story

Sra. Sofía is a member of the Communal Bank “Vecinas Unidas” (United Neighbors) which is located in the District of Calleria, Department of Ucayali. She is 51 years old, married, and has five children.


Sra. Sofía has worked with Manuela Ramos for ten years. She has an establishment set up in front of a business school where young people hang out when they are waiting to leave or on break. There they are able to buy soft drinks, tamales, or stuffed potatoes. Sofía operates her business with the help of one employee.


She will invest her new loan in the purchase of one sack of sugar, one gallon of oil, one bag of caramels, one bag of gum, one kilo of flour, one 25-liter bucket, five packets of sacks, and one packet of sorbets. Her business is open all day Monday through Friday. At night, she comes home to be with her husband and children.


Manuela Ramos instills in women the knowledge that they also can generate income for their families.
